Hi Team
The Atlanta trip is just about here. For those who can, we'll be meeting Saturday at 9 AM for about three hours. We'll be planning and packing tools, materials, and parts, as well as organizing other team stuff like scouting plans, trash and trinkets, banner, etc.
Here is the travel plan as far as it is known today.
Monday: get your permission form signed and back to Bill or Margaret. Also bring any remaining payment. You must have both to leave with us on Tuesday. Here are the remaining balances:
Brian Cloutier $80
Greg Fenema $80
James Warder $10
Jason Eckelbarger $80
Jordan Odle $105
Stephen Foster $70
Mimi Gilkinson $200
Ellie Warder $219
Tina Cloutier $500
Tuesday 4/10 approx 4PM (exact time TBD): drive to Phoenix SSA to spend the night. This is because of the expected difficulty getting everyone to SSA Tucson for a 5 AM departure Wednesday morning. Getting students up at 4 to be at school by 5 just seemed like a high risk. And we'll get the trip fun started early this way.
NOTE: if some people absolutely cannot leave with the team on Tuesday after school we can consider have one of the three vans drive up later Tuesday or early Wednesday morning. If it's just one or two people in this category, you'll have to find your own transportation to Phoenix. But if this is a problem, please let me know right away.
NOTE: please pack very conservatively. We want to fit everything in the three mini-vans if possible. If necessary, we can take Korbin's truck and the trailer again, but I'd very much prefer not to have to do that. Put your sleeping bag in a suitcase or something protective. Checking a sleeping bag by itself risks damaging the bag. Extended forecast for Atlanta shows showers and highs in the low 70s, lows in the 40s, so you'll want a jacket that can shed some water. It could be even colder - this week the highs there have been as low as the 40s and 50s. You can bring snacks for the plane ride but no liquids - not even bottled water. Drinks are available on the plane. Finally, parents please send along information about whatever medical insurance should be used if that becomes necessary.
Wednesday morning 6 AM: drive from SSA Phoenix to Sky Harbor, fly to Atlanta on a 7:50 AM departure on AirTran 543.
Our sleeping accomodations in Atlanta are courtesy of friends of Mr. Calik. He used to live in Atlanta and still has many contacts there. We'll be in three separate private residences. This is what is making our trip more affordable.
NOTE: there will not be beds for everyone and maybe for nobody. You must assume that you'll be sleeping on the floor, so bring sleeping bag or other bedding.
Thursday-Saturday: attend FIRST National Championship (this is more or less the same schedule as the Phoenix regional, i.e., all day every day)
Sunday: we have most of the day to play in Atlanta. Flight home leaves at 6:13PM AirTran 542. We get into Phoenix at 7:33PM. We should be back at SSA around 10PM.
If you have any questions about this plan, please call me at 520.743.8062.
I'm looking forward to a fun, exciting and successful trip! Hope you are too.
Bill
