Hey builders!

San Diego is rolling towards us. I hope you guys are excited about going.

NOW HEAR THIS: you need to respond to Margaret's requests asking if you're going. This thing won't happen if we don't get people responding with interest in going. OK? Don't assume she knows you're going. Send email to Margaret Reynolds (Joe's mom) at muddyclear at hotmail.com.

Also - reminder - we're trying to get a team photo, and if you want to be in it, please try to be at the shop tomorrow. We'll take the photo around lunch time.

The team members that have been at recent build meetings have settled on the following plan to get Kareem ready for San Diego. Note that we would like to do new wheels, but decided that for the amount of competition play we expect Kareem to be in (one more day), we judged it was not worth the time and expense to do a serious rework of the drive train or wheels. That can be a great summer/fall project. The IFI wheels, even though we don't like them too much, did fine for 5 days of our 6 days of competition. So refurbishing them should get us through one day.

Here are the tasks:
Frame:
straighten bent parts of frame, especially where the bends result in wheel mis-alignment
replace crushed flatbar at front of wheel channels with square tubing
add reinforcement gussets behind collector slide to reduce exposure to same kind of frame bending

Collector:
change collector front edge bracket to square tubing, to both hold it's shape better, and add more strength to the frame front end

Wheels:
replace bearings
change to non-threaded axles with cotter or clevis pins (stronger, simpler to change)
consider replacing axle brackets with square tubing (don't need fork if use non-threaded axles)

After the mechanical work is done, and if there's time and interest, we can try to improve the autonomous code.

Any last comments? This is a student driven plan, so make sure your voice is heard. We'll be starting the work tomorrow.

Bill
