[CRUSH-build] Kareem needs some attention before he can compete

Bill, Could you pick up enough runner for 2' x 4'? Leslie say's that there
probably is not enough plastic runner left to obtain a front shield. The
plastic at the shop was cut in a way that makes it useless for the shield. I will
stop at all necessary Home Depots to obtain enough grommets.
Leslie and I feel that Round bar welded around the outside of the existing
pins with plastic runner stretched from top to bottom and side to side will
be lighter and more durable then the 1/8" acrylic. (1/4' acrylic would have
been better but heavier). The bars will keep the Robots out and the Plastic
the balls.
I don't expect that there should be any reason to disassemble the wheels
in the future. Therefore, we should permanently locktite them.
If the Transmissions have not been plumbed, they should be.
THERE IS NO TIME LEFT TO MAKE ALL FUNCTIONS WORK PROPERLY.
If we weld the basket in place, we can loose much weight and save the time
that it is going to take trying to make it function properly.
We can use the basket for collecting, and shooting.
We can use the shooter for goal shooting and shooting the balls toward our
allies and away from the opponents.
When the basket jams it's a collector.
Any debris in the chain could make them jump the sprockets since the
sprockets have short teeth. They need to be clean. Grease slips and collects more
dirt that can't be brushed or blown away. I would not suggest using grease.
Loosing the dumping action of the basket will put our weight problem to
bed.
It is my feeling that if we don't concentrate on making part of this robot
work properly and loosing other parts ( dumping) , we will be working on the
robot, at Phoenix, instead of competing. Let's not reengineer. Let's
prioritize our goals for a 2 minute match.
We had high expectations and goals for the time that we are given to build a
robot. I doubt if the first engineers feel that it is feasible for teams to
make all work. I feel that the idea is to choose. They give teams a stretch to
reach for. there is probably some teams out there with the engineering,
machine, experience, and man(women)power to complete all functions, but for Crush
1011 it should be a goal to shoot for.
Although this is a frustrating time, We should All should remember that we
are reaching for a very high goal to accomplish in Six Weeks. We also don't
have 75 students on our roster like some teams in the Northeast.
This could be worse. We could have sent our Robot costing millions to the
moon to have it lost or broken. We could have sent a shuttle into orbit to have
it not get there.
They do the best they can and then, try again. US TOO !!
