Dear Crush 1011 Member,
This week your Scholastic Book Fair begins. Join us in sharing a love
of reading with our students at Sonoran Science Academy. The Fair starts
Thursday, November 30th and runs through Wednesday, December 6th. It is a
great way to connect your kids with books they want to read!
We have planned an event packed with family-friendly fun and everyone
is invited. On Monday, December 4th from 6:15 to 8:15PM Arizona Amateur
Astronomers will be coming out and setting up their telescopes on the soccer
field. We'll be looking at the moon and the planets in the fall sky.
In addition, on Monday night these local authors will be at the Book
Fair to share their books with us:
Charline Profiri has written stories and poems for children of all
ages-everything from board books to a historical novel. Her writing has
appeared in Highlights for Children, Pockets and My Friend among others. Her
latest offering is a board book called Counting Little Geckos.

Jennifer J. Stewart writes what she calls seriously funny books for
children. Her third and latest book,
<http://www.jenniferjstewart.com/prod03.htm> Close Encounters of a
Third-World Kind, is loosely based upon her family's real life adventures
working as medical volunteers in the kingdom of Nepal. This book has been
nominated for a Grand Canyon Reader Award (formerly called the Arizona Young
Reader Award). <http://www.jenniferjstewart.com/> www.jenniferjstewart.com.
Janni Simner's latest novel, <http://www.simner.com/fiction.html> Secret of
the Three Treasures is about a kid who's determined to live a life of
adventure, and isn't about to let small things like still being in
elementary school get in her way. She's written three other
<http://www.simner.com/fiction.html> novels, and more than 30
<http://www.simner.com/fiction.html> short stories for kids, teens, and
adults. <http://www.simner.com/> www.simner.com.
Jennifer Ward is the author of several wildly fun books for children,
including Way Out in the Desert, The Seed and the Giant Saguaro, and the
forthcoming titles, There Was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea, Because You Are
My Baby, Over in the Arctic, and I Love Dirt! Her writing is often inspired
by <http://www.jenniferwardbooks.com/nature.html> nature and a love for
using language that enhances the reading experience for children.

Ken Graun publishes astronomy books and star charts for adults and children
and is sure to have some wisdom to impart during the Star Party. His Web
site contains all kinds of factual pointers for teachers and young star
enthusiasts alike. He lives on Tucson's West Side.
