Hi team
The result of our long discussion Saturday about managing email was to do
two things:
(1) the "all" list is now moderated. Students that have a need to post (e.g.
for the newsletter) are unmoderated, so they can send w/o the delay of
waiting on the moderator. Mentors who requested to be unmoderated are
likewise unmoderated. All others are moderated. This means mail will come to
me first and then be released if it's the right kind of mail for all. If
this happens a few times, I'll just make that person unmoderated so I don't
have to bother. The main thing is to prevent accidental mailing to "all"
because of replies.
(2) the "chat" list now exists, with most active members on it. If you
didn't get a "welcome" message from the chat list and want to be on it,
please mail that to me. We did this because the "build" list had become a
place to chat about all team related activities, and was no longer useful
for the build team to discuss build specific topics. So this announcement is
sent to build, since that has been the recent practice, but from here on,
non-build team chat should go to chat at crush1011.org.
Remember, there are lists that are specific to each of the main team areas
of activity, and you should use the one most appropriate to the topic:
all - mainly for all-hands announcements
build - for stuff related to building the robot (metal work, design, tools,
etc)
code - for robot programming
animation - for animation of course
chat - for general team chat not on the above topics
core - for team leader discussions
SAME - to ask questions to members of SAME
