Dear Crush 1011 Member,

Sonoran Science Academy's robotics team CRUSH (Creating Robots Under Severe
Heat) competed with 43 other teams from around the country in the Arizona
Regional FIRST Robotics Competition March 8-10 in Phoenix. The FIRST
Robotics Competition is organized by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition
of Science and Technology) and is participated in by over 1300 team around
the US and worldwide. Despite significant mechanical problems with their
lifter mechanism, CRUSH used a robust chassis and drive train, and superb
driver skills to fight their way into the semi-finals before loosing to the
team that ultimately took first place in the competition.

But at Team CRUSH they like to say "We Build More Than Robots". And this
weekend the FIRST judges agreed. Team CRUSH was honored with the Engineering
Inspiration Award, the second highest team award that FIRST presents at
regional events. This award celebrates a team's efforts and success in
advancing appreciation and respect for engineering and engineers by
encouraging, enthusing, and recruiting students at the school and in the
community to engineering courses of study and careers in engineering,
science, and technology. Team CRUSH accomplished this goal through numerous
presentations and workshops at schools, clubs, businesses and public sites
such as shopping malls. In addition they host an annual Robolympics event at
their school where the public and other educators and students are exposed
to FIRST robotics through workshops and an exhibition competition. CRUSH
builds more than robots; they build students with a future.

Congratulations to all team members and mentors!
